Introducing "Our Food Crickhowell"
We're very excited to spread the news about a new local community group, Our Food Crickhowell.
For years Crickhowell has stood as firmly independent and the way in which all the local businesses pull together and support one another shows just what a very special little town we have. So many brilliant individual producers, suppliers, eateries and outlets have grown here and Our Food Crickhowell has been set up with the sole purpose of celebrating and spreading awareness of all these amazing small businesses.
We are extremely proud to be included in the list of producers amongst some genuinely unique and inspirational people and products. Here at Black Mountains Smokery, we source our produce as locally and as sustainably as possible and our hamper produce is almost exclusively supplied from likeminded Welsh producers, many of which are also supported by Our Food Crickhowell.
We commission, smoke and also sell cheeses provided by Blaenafon Cheddar and likewise Cashells Butchers' renowned Welsh Dragon Sausages. We purchase Welsh Farmhouse Apple Juice from across the main road, raw Welsh honey from our friends at Llangattock Apiaries and delicious charcuterie from Trealy Farm. Other produce come from brilliant businesses based further afield, from Brecon and Chepstow to Anglesey and Carmarthenshire but they're all really Welsh and produced from the heart. We even have a whole range dedicated to our Welsh delights with hampers and gifts filled to the brim with carefully chosen items.
We also supply many shops, cafes and kitchens locally.
As well as providing us with their amazing (but not actually dragon) dragon sausages, Cashells sell a huge range of our produce in their Crickhowell High Street store and independantly owned Grenfell and Sons Grocery also stock a number of our products. The successes of these trading posts is what keeps Crick the wonderfully novel town it is.
If you eat out at one of the many excellent eateries in and around town, chances are that they have something of ours on the menu too. We are blessed to have some very highly praised chefs in The Dragon Inn, The Bear Hotel and Latte-Da and Bookish cafes. They all use wholesome, local ingredients and we're really grateful that our smoked foods are used in their delicious dishes. It's often that we find a very happy diner in our smokery shop purchasing seconds to enjoy at home!
Our Food Crickhowell have their own website which lists all these businesses and more with lots of ideas of how you can get involved and support our Crickhowell community too.
