The Black Mountains Smokery team has a core staff of just 6 for most of the year, the team then doubles (or even triples!) in our busy autumn months! Meet the BMS Team below:
We waved goodbye to our Gap Year students at the end of December after a huge effort in our Christmas packing room. They’re now making use of their well-earned cash and are halfway around the world… safe travels boys!
At the end of February we said goodbye to Kate, our wonderful office linchpin. She had been with us for nearly 3 years and having gained valuable skills and experience, felt it was time to move on to the city lights. We wish her every happiness and success in her new job in Cardiff.
Meet the survivors who stick with us all year round!
Blyth is a close family friend and has been on all sorts of adventures with our son, Hugh since the age of three. He has been Kate’s No.2 since October and has now stepped up to fill her shoes taking on more responsibility. We’re currently plying him with lots of new information. It may be a bit dizzying, but he’s proving steadfast in his new venture. If you are phoning our office it’s likely to be Blyth taking your call and placing your order.
Corinne has become our fabulous and resilient mainstay leading our production team. She joined us in May 2018 from her brother’s specialty smokery in France when she moved to Breconshire to be with her boyfriend. Bright and bubbly, organised and calm, she has brought many changes to streamline our production. She is also a fabulous mentor for Naomi and brilliant at keeping Jonathan in line too! As a result, we have a well-oiled production team with much laughter involved.
Naomi has joined us for her student placement year from Harper Adams University where she studies Food Technology and Nutrition. She’s originally from Buckinghamshire but is enjoying Welsh country life since her parents have moved to nearby Brecon. Now she’s nestled herself wonderfully in our production team and serves as Corrine’s No.1. Her infectious cheery personality has won the hearts of all of us here. She’s only with us until July… perhaps we can persuade her to come back when she graduates?!
Hugh, our son, works with marquees and bespoke tents at events all over the country in the spring & summer, yet he sweetly finds the time to come and troubleshoot for us – he’s our very own Mr. Fix It! He re-joins our team full-time for the busy build-up to Christmas. You can meet him manning our stalls at autumn fairs or working his way through an endless production to-do list here at our base in the Welsh hills in December. (You can’t miss him, he’s the tall blond man with a booming voice!).
